United Kennel Club
The United Kennel Club (UKC) is the second largest dog breed
registry in the world, after the Fédération Cynologique Internationale
(FCI). They were formed in 1898 by Chauncey Z. Bennett with the purpose to
provide an emphasis on working dogs rather than conformation shows. As a result
some of their breeds with the most registrations are coon and pack hounds.
The UKC recognizes over 300 breeds of dog, which are divided into eight breed groups:
Companion Dog
Guardian Dog
Gun Dog
Herding Dog
Northern Breed
Scenthound
Sighthound and Pariah
