Dog Breeds from the Czech Republic
The Czech Republic is home to a small handful of dog reeds, none of which is very well known outside its homeland, although some are gaining popularity. In the United States, the small Cesky Terrier is the only breed that has gained American Kennel Club (AKC) recognition, which did not happen until 2011. The Czechoslovakian Wolfdog, a fairly recent breed, and the Cesky Fousek are both recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI). Lastly, the little Prazsky Krysarik, or Prague Ratter, remains unknown in the show ring, but is becoming quite popular as a companion in the Czech Republic.
