The Kennel Club
The Kennel Club (KC), located in the United Kingdom, is the
oldest kennel club in the world. It was founded in 1873 by Sewallis E. Shirley
who desired to have a consistent set of rules for dog shows. Once the KC was
formed he was elected chairman and since then only 13 others have held this
role.
Annually the KC hosts the Crufts dog show, which has been held since 1928 and brings in competition from around the world. Originally only being a conformation show they have expanded to include events such as obedience, agility, and flyball.
As of 2013 the KC recognizes 211 breeds of dog, which are divided into seven breed groups:
Gundog
Hound
Pastoral
Terrier
