The Montenegrin Mountain Hound is a medium-sized scenthound that was developed to hunt boar, deer, fox, and hare. This breed is rarely seen outside its homeland and there is primarily kept by hunters.

History of the Montenegrin Mountain Hound
An ancient breed, the Montenegrin Mountain Hound is one of several hounds from the Balkan Peninsula in southeast Europe. They were developed in the Planina region of what was Yugoslavia and when it was still one country the breed was known as the Black Forrest Hound. It took its modern name in 1997 when the Fédération Cynologique Internationale recognized it as a Montenegrin breed.
