Braque de l'Ariége
Ariege Pointer, Ariege Pointing Dog

The Braque de l’Ariege is a pointer, a gundog that has been bred specifically for their ability to point. This means that they will freeze when they have found game and point their muzzle towards the waiting animal to give the hunter its location. They can also easily be traineed to retrieve prey once it has been killed. This breed was developed specifically for hunting game such as rabbit or partridge in rough country.

History of the Braque de l'Ariége
The Braque del’Ariege is one of the old French braques. Their history is unknown, although it is believed to have resulted from old crosses between Spanish (Perdiguero Navarro) and Italian (Bracco Italiano) Pointers and possibly some blood from the extinct Chien Blanc du Roi (King's White Hounds). This was originally a slower breed, but as hunting styles changed more outcrosses were made with the Braque Francais and Braque Saint-Germain to increase their speed.
