Han Dog
Han Dynasty Dog

The Han Dog is a type of dog that existed in ancient China. They were common in the Han Dynasty and flourished from 25-220 AD. Although little mention of them is made in literature, they live on in artwork and sculpture.
It is believed the Han Dog was a house and property guard, tethered outside to drive off intruders. Effigies of these dogs litter tombs, still protecting their dead masters.
In appearance, the Han Dog resembles a short coated Chinese Shar-Pei or Chow Chow. Both breeds may be its modern descendants, along with the lesser-known Chinese Chongqing Dog.
