History of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi
The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a small drover that originated in Wales. They are one of two Welsh Corgis, the second being the older Cardigan. At one point both the Cardigan and the Pembroke were interbred, a practice that was not discontinued until the 1930s, but as a result the difference between the two breeds have lessened. The origin of both Corgis is debated, however a popular story specific to the Pembroke is that their ancestors came with Flemish weavers brought to Great Britain by King Henry I of England. Later they would be championed by Queen Elizabeth, who has kept Pembrokes at Buckingham Palace for almost 80 years.
