History of the Kromfohrländer
The history of the Kromfohrländer begins during WWII, when American troops adopted a brown and white terrier mix while fighting through France. This dog became their little mascot and accompanied the soldiers into Germany where it became attached to Ilse Schleifenbaum who permanently adopted him and gave him the name of Peter. She mated the dog with her neighbor’s bitch, which may have been a Wire Fox Terrier. Their offspring became the foundation stock for the breed.
