History of the Cão Fila de São Miguel
The homeland of the Cão Fila de São Miguel is the remote island of São Miguel, which is located in the in the southeastern part of the Azores archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean. Its origin is unknown, although it is likely closely related to the extinct Fila da Terceira, which was another Azorean dog, and through them the slightly more common Rafeiro do Alentejo.
