History of the Lagotto Romagnolo
The Lagotto Romagnolo or ‘lake dog from Romagna’ originated in Romagna, Italy. Their ancestors were water retrievers working in the Ravenna lagoons in the 16th century that spread to the nearby plains and into the Romagnolo hills. Once there their role changed as they became specialized in hunting for truffles and they lost their use as a gundog, even though they are still classified as one.
